High-Capacity, Versatile Storage Solution
DVD-ROM (Digital Versatile Disc, Read Only Memory) technology is similar to CD-ROM technology, but offers much higher capacity. This technology has its roots firmly planted in DVD Video, much like CD-ROM discs are similar to CD audio discs. However, unlike CD-ROM discs with their 650MB capacity, DVD-ROM discs can hold up to 18 gigabytes. This is possible because DVD-ROM discs can be double-sided, and even have up to two information layers per side. The basic capacity of a single-sided, single layer DVD-ROM disc is 4.7GB. This can be expanded to a single-sided, dual layer disc with 9GB capacity, or a double-sided, dual layer disc with 18GB capacity.
